Paige
I have been a volunteer at Common Pantry for nearly 2 years.  I decided to volunteer with them because they are my local food pantry and while I don’t always have much to donate in the way of cash, I do have time that I can spare.  I know how hard local families have been hit by the recession and I also know that many, including myself, are often just a paycheck or two away from knowing real hunger.  By helping at the Common Pantry, I am able to provide my neighbors with food and assistance they might not otherwise have access to.

My reason for volunteering isn’t entirely selfless either — I’ve made some good friends at the Pantry and it makes me feel good to know that I’m helping families in need.  The appreciation from the clients is very real and also reminds me that what we’re doing is worthwhile.  While we’re helping them today, tomorrow they could be helping me and that’s something I keep in mind every night I volunteer.
